Yarn bomb.

Celebrating creativity, collaboration and community!

Art Wellesley is delighted to be hosting a series of maker events – knitting and crochet classes at the library, knitting and crochet circles at area restaurants and private homes, and high school knitting classes at the high school – leading up to a community yarn bomb event to be installed at Linden Square in May 2025.

The celebratory unveiling event will take place on Saturday May 17th.

Yarn bombing is a type of graffiti or street art that employs colorful displays of knitted or crocheted fiber rather than paint or chalk.

We are grateful to Premier Yarns, Linden Square, First Byte Designs, the Wellesley Free Library, the Wellesley Cultural Council and the Community Fund for Wellesley for their generous support of this project.

FAQ.

What we’re doing?

Art Wellesley participants will create small square or rectangular samplers in a variety of colors and patterns that will ultimately be assembled and installed across town.

Free materials are available at classes or to be collected upon request. Contact info@artwellesley.org to arrange for pickup.

Why we’re doing it?

Knitting and crocheting together builds community. Art Wellesley envisioned this project to celebrate creativity, encourage collaboration, break down barriers between siloed groups and get folks making stuff together!

The yarn bomb installation will be a vibrant explosion of color, creativity and community spirit! Get involved.

When we’re doing it?

All winter…Knit and crochet samplers all winter. Come to a scheduled class or arrange to collect materials to work on your own or organize your own knitting circle!

On May 17th, during Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend, Art Wellesley will install the yarn bomb and host a celebration of creativity at Linden Square.
